Last weekend we went to visit my parents at the beach for a few days. They were staying at Marco Island which is about an hour from Ft. Myers. It was neat to visit a new place and to explore and find all the little parks and places to eat. The sad part was watching the news and feeling so overwhelmed with the approaching storm. After a while you start to feel paralyzed and before you know it you have watched hours of storm coverage. It was hard to think of anything but the unimaginable trauma these people have experienced. You just want to do something to help.

At one point, Mom and Dad watched Landon so that Shane and I could take a walk on the beach. We went shelling on the South end of the Island and found some nice size shells to bring home. It was nice to be able get a break and to spend a little time together.

With my new job, I will be working with Hurricane Survivors from the FL. Hurricanes of 2004. It is a year long program and is called Project Recovery. We have training later this month in Ft.. Myers along with 14 other statewide teams. We will be working with churches, nursing homes, and schools to identify people who continue to struggle emotionally as a result of last year's storms. If you want to read more you can look at my post from July 20. My supervisor is in Bay St. Louis, MS. now providing Critical Incident Stress Counseling with a Crisis Team. I'm sure there are thousands of teams going out and I would like to go and do my part. It would just be so hard to be away from my family.

The need is tremendous and if you do decide to go, let us know so we can pray for you.
